Blast the right places

Now, it’s not like I don’t support unity walks and similar support efforts but I think I’ve had enough of unity walks and baseless email forwards in the name of religion. I mean, how can you just go on and on and confuse people even more than they already are. The human species, for the most part can be influenced very easily and if you just throw in a little sentimentality, we’ll fall for it. It’s a tried and tested method and it’s still prevailing.

Take for instance the recent terrorist attack on Mumbai. I know it was sad and I’m heartbroken, but I don’t need to see images of forced Muslim and Hindu coalitions to state that we’re united. I mean by my not being part of a peace walk or If I refuse to forward a unity email, do I become a non believer of unity and harmony in religion. I can go and on about this but somehow most people fall for this emotional gambol. I for one thing can’t stand too much of this show. I’m hurt and I feel helpless about these attacks and worry myself sick about what if I get blown out some day but I can’t find compensation for such fear in talks of communal harmony.

The matter that needs tackling certainly is the threat terrorism poses and not how united we stand in the face of attacks. I mean no one’s really going to ask our religion and then shoot you down; they’re simply going to take you down.

So, is it really important to be more enthusiastic about peace marches, candlelight vigils and sending out messages that speak the voice of communal harmony? The need of the hour is to tackle terrorism, strengthen forces, and make sure there are intelligence services that can anticipate problems and thwart attacks right at the onset. Even better provide security and a safe haven in quarters where inclination towards terrorist activity is almost expected.

I mean I always thought bomb the place out was just a thing to say when you’re frustrated but imagine people actually carrying it out. Can’t read into people’s minds for sure but there’s got to be something someone can do, especially since people are so busy making policies and grants. It’s time the real matters are addressed rather than let the matter fizzle away till another one takes its place.

Handle the delicate environment with care

Every human activity in the modern world is bringing harm to the nature in one way or the other. The vast use of chemicals exploit the nature directly while the excess consumption of nature fuels pose a threat to the natural resources on our earth. It is high time that you pay your attention to make use of green smart tips to benefit you and the environment.

When using electronic equipment like fridge, there are various ways in which we can reduce the power consumption. Similarly, we can bring about a change by using cloth diapers which are eco-friendly instead of the non-disposable diapers.

Save turtles

It’s time to prove a point before all is lost. And now is the time. What can you do to save the Olive Ridley turtles? Please take the initiative to do what you can and spread the word and stand by these innocent sea creatures that deserve as much betterment as anyone else does. There is no time to play the blame game and shift responsibilities because the high tides will be here again.

Turtle cause

Of course there is huge controversy already regarding who is responsible for the Dhamra Port. Other reports suggest that the state government has ownership and this is a state initiative and not one man’s dream of an advanced India. Of course it is commendable that such an important task is being undertaken in one of the poorest states of India but does that imply that the plight of the sea turtles is ignored. Each year millions die because of poaching and inability to return to the sea after the high sea. So much so, that each year during this tumultuous period where scores of Olive Ridley turtles are left stranded, there’s volunteers from all over who painstakingly replace these lovable creatures back into the waters. As such, can so many people’s initiative just be ignored? This is not another matter of laidback political decisions but it’s time that someone did something. So it boils down to who is responsible? Will the state government rectify this matter or will Ratan Tata do something. Of course both parties are progressive in their quest towards excellence and both hold the power to control the situation. So after their respective promises to make Orissa a more business viable state and make Indian car owners with the launch of the ‘Nano,’ will they work towards the betterment of a species that will soon be extinct because of their quest to excellence.

Turtle time

Olive Ridley sea turtles are small heart shaped turtles weighing approximately 50 kilograms. They are mostly found in the northern sea cost of Orissa, India. They are migratory turtles which have been declared as one of the endangered species from the turtle family. In recent years, over 100,000 turtles from this species have died due to offshore drilling of gas and oil. To make matters worse, the Indian Government has given a green signal for constructing a mega port which is hardly 5 kilometers away from the Bhitarkanika sanctuary and 15 kilometers away from the Gahirmatha coastline. Bhitarkanika is also India’s second largest mangrove forest. In 2007, nearly 130,000 Olive Ridley sea turtles nested on the coastline of Gahirmatha. The construction of this port has attracted many nature enthusiasts attention worldwide. There have been internet forwards which are being sent to as many people as possible regarding this issue. Still the work at Dhamra port hasn’t stopped. India being a democratic country in which the citizens of the country are the actual rulers of the country. However, due to lack of interest from the people of India, this problem is growing much too fast.
