Over the years I don’t know about industrial but it certainly serves as a brilliant personal bank. You pay your internet connection bills, pay your phone recharge vouchers, ask anyone for cash on broke days, send money to people, parents included, shop, watch movies, everything you can think of, ICICI does for me. So now if it just disappeared, I’d go back to the ice age.

People are cautious, the share markets spelling doom. ICICI share prices of 900 rupees, quoted 350 rupees today. Are you scared? Depositors rushed into endless queues to withdraw their hard earned money. The RBI issued a security statement and notices were posted outside all ICICI ATM’s stating that ICICI has enough funds to return all depositors funds. I believe ICICI will not liquidate; it’s just a passing tide. Obviously I need to believe because else all my NEFT transactions would come to a standstill. I also believe because since young I believed in everything red, my sports house, favorite clothes, football teams, my car colors, the red heart, everything. Today, I understand the consequence of my choices, Ferrari, Manchester United, Hastings House, and ICICI to name a few.

What started out as a red debit card with an understanding with HP, even though I don’t own a vehicle, it has come a long way. When the market is bleeding, hold your own, the market will turn. It’s a war between the bull and the bear, and when the bear sees red, you know what happens.

The presidential debate

It’s easy to speak n from of the media, and say juts what you please because you’re king. Certainly Barry Obama and McCain do take liberties and are in fact stretching reality far beyond the grasp of common man. In today’s severe U.S recession, Americans are vulnerable. Will choosing a leader change all of that? Every word that the presidential candidates are saying is being evaluated so that America can make a choice.

It’s more about can the common voter identify with a certain candidate. Is it really that important or are people being hopeful about results. Will the economy stabilise?

There are a lot of things that need attention. Terrorism, oil imports, hostile relationships with hostile countries, tax benefits, scope for business groups, benefits for ordinary citizens who’ve had to budget a bit too much. There are things being said to impress you, but the facts could be something else.

This is very difficult. Not everyone’s world famous, but there are people who are loved by all they meet. Reji Rajan, I could never call him that. For me he was always “Reggae” or “fatty.” It’s been exactly 4 years and 11 months we’ve known each other, we met in the last week of October in 2003, and probably today I know why the Oktoberfest always rang a bell.

Getting a job at Convergys helped us meet. We did everything young professionals do, parties, rebel, pass out and spend a lot of time together. We’ve spent days at an end together and never fought. We’ve gone to so many places together, travel was fun, but I know it’ll never be the same again. He has a free spirit, he loved taking off.

He loved wine, never smoked a cigarette, didn’t abuse and enjoyed being with people. Hard work, determination and a vision, he personified such measures. He worked at AXA, moved to 3G; I know he was doing well. We celebrated his birthday together this year. He handled it all as it came, success, situations, events and even the calling off of his wedding. He’s the heights of being funny. He always bought me chocolates, each time.

I’ll tell you something funny. He comes home one day and I’m like wait awhile, I’m just finishing. Then I’m like how come here, you’re supposed to be elsewhere. He’s like yes, then sits another 5 minutes and says I have a long holiday. So I’m like but that’s for a reason.  He says, yes, then laughs and says I know was to be married; don’t look so shocked the wedding got called off. He loved with his heart, people and religion. He always went through the lent period like a true Christian and converting to a Hindu was asking too much from a happy soul like him.

Our last meal was at Chaitanyas, and our last bottle of wine together was two oceans, last fast food, KFC, and last cake, his chocolate birthday cake. I never knew they’d be the end. I had no chairs at home; I had to get them super quick so Reggae could sit, because the recliner was uncomfortable. We watched sports together, news, discussed CPI (M) and all the funny people we’ve known. He loved Kerala and was a good mallu. Dear, we’ll miss you. Till death do us apart, and you will always live on.

Bike deal

For everyone with a Pulsar, this needs a special mention. I was on the bike when this happened and it was heartbreaking to see the riders’ distress. Apart from this, we obviously need better trained mechanics. One great thing was that they did send a delivery van for the bike, so that’s really thoughtful. It’s obviously a great bike but such things can happen. Probably the blames to be borne by the poor condition of roads in Pune, the bike wasn’t at fault. They even reimbursed a major part by check, so not a bad deal really, but the sounds still audible.

The war between the dumb and the intelligent

No clue why so many people are witnessing this in silence. With director Rituparno Ghosh and actors Amitabh Bachchan and Arjun Rampal, we’re all awaiting The Last Lear. Staying in Maharashtra that’s all you can do. Why because an impossible MNS sentiment has been hurt. Oh, so sad. First their wrath was the North Indians and residents of Bihar, then came the Marathi brigade. What a shame, considering that Marathi Theater is so brilliant, the people in this part of the country are fine, but MNS isn’t. I have no idea whose interest they are safeguarding. And, mind you this is a democratic country, what a joke. At this rate we’re heading towards serious setbacks, bullying and probably communal riots yet again. Let’s take away all professionals (MNC’s, BPO’s, laborers, etc) from the north of the country that reside here or let them all go on a strike for a day and let’s see the country come to a standstill. As far as banning a film and tearing posters for reasons of self imposed insult, people need to get a life. India needs to wake up. This is more like local mafia than a political party.

Goodness of cigarettes

Cigarette is made up of tobacco and nicotine. It is rolled in a piece of paper with a filter at the bottom. Smoking cigarettes is not good for you; this is what we have always heard.
